'Equal is Unfair' -A review of the new book that takes on modern Leftism.
I have finished reading ["Equal is Unfair'](http://amzn.to/1Rxmrbz) America's Misguided Fight Against Income Inequality" and have to say, "WOW, this is so much better than I thought it would be." This book came out last Wednesday and is the definitive case against the modern left. I bought the book because I knew "Wealth inequality" was a growing issue of the left, because this election season is bringing that issue to the forefront with those like Bernie Sanders, and because I've debated enough leftists to know that I could use the intellectual ammunition. However this book turned out to be so much more than just the issue of "income inequality'. 'Equal is Unfair' goes after all of the major tenets of modern Leftism. Don Wakins and Dr. Yaron Brook raze modern leftism to the ground, leave no stone unturned, and salt the earth afterwards. It is a passionate and scholarly work that gets to the heart of these moral/political issues. I can not recommend it enough, and I'm not alone, George Selgin, Director, Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives at the Cato Institute writes: >“There are all sorts of very good books and articles exposing the economic fallacies underlying recent calls for more aggressive government-sponsored wealth-redistribution. But none exposes the misguided ethics underlying such calls as effectively as Don Watkins' and Yaron Brook's Equal is Unfair. Defenders of free markets need to recapture the high moral ground from their redistributionist opponents, and this book supplies just the ammunition needed for the job." John A. Allison, retired President and CEO of the, Cato Institute, and retired Chairman and CEO of BB&T writes, >"Equal Is Unfair demolishes the Left’s myths and demonstrates that the campaign against income inequality is actually an attack on the concept of the ‘land of opportunity’?America’s unique sense of life. As Watkins and Brook show, reason and freedom, not handouts and high taxes, are the foundations of human progress. And production, not redistribution, is the source of human flourishing." The book takes down: The inequality myth. The Scandinavian socialism myth. The myth that the successful are 'exploiters' The economic pie myth. Leftwing economist Piketty's statistical manipulations. The "You didn't build that" rhetoric from those like Warren and Obama. The left's Success=Luck argument. FDR and LBJ's Great Society programs. Egalitarianism. "Social Justice" advocates. The inculcation of victimhood by the left in poor ghettos. And much much more.... Watkins and Dr. Brook attack every leftwing issue on multiple fronts. They prove their case empirically by taking down the statistical manipulations of the left. They prove their case by showing the logical progression of what these ideas entail. They prove their case morally, by showing what these ideas mean to individual human beings and life on this earth, and finally they prove their case by offering a solid alternative. I highly recommend it.
